Little Story about painting
The Girl on her Own
11/5/26
Mixed media: Acrylic paint, fineliner, metallic paint & can.
"The girl on her own" is my second painting of the "Jazz Ladies" series. My previous painting had a classic lady in a red dress at a brown cafe. This lady is now at a more modern white bar.
Little Story
It's a late summer evening, the doors of the jazz café are wide open, everyone who passes can look inside. People are gathered sitting, chatting, drinking wine and cocktails at the bar and outside on the terrace. The lights are dimmed and the place is bubbly and alive. The terrace is on the cobblestone path of the street with other cafes across. Inside, there is a small jazz band playing. A lady is playing the piano while singing and a man is playing the bass. A young lady in a blue-green dress is standing on her own outside of the cafe. She's leaning with one hand against the wall and one hand holds her bag. Everyone is standing in groups but she's on her own. She seems to be listening to the music and listening to the noise of people chatting and laughing. She seems to be looking at the street and evening sky. People sometimes walk past her to go in and out of the cafe but they don't seem to notice her. She's surrounded by people that seem to be naturally finding each other and socialising. She notices how easy strangers greet each other and have follow up small talks and laughs. For a place so alive, she noticed how she's blocked. She's the observer of it all. At the moment she seems to prefer it like this but it's bittersweet. After a while she decides to go home. When she goes to walk home, she notices a guy with gentle curious eyes sitting across the street on another terrace with his friends. He had been observing her the whole time. They make eye contact briefly. She notices an intrigued expression in his eyes which makes her shy. She gives him a small smile and then quickly looks away. He watches her walk off with her long curls and dress flowing in the wind. Who is she?
